Technology- dance on screen

Saturday, May 2, 2009

Michelle Mahrer discusses the way that technology can change dance.

In Mahrer's opinion the moving body is 'the essential element in the film landscape' (p.95). Technology has shaped the way people view things and absorb information, camera angles and lighting and manipulate the way an image is shown.

Technology plays a role in the way people view dance. Amy Greenfield (American dance film-maker/choreographic) suggests that a camera comes in between dancer and viewer, as it controls what the viewer sees and in her opinion: 'the viewer doesn't see the dance directly' (p.95)
